The Bird Republic in the Warta Mouth - the winner of EDEN 2009 competition organized by European Commission

EDEN is the acronym for European Destinations of Excellence, a project promoting sustainable tourism development models across the European Union. The project is based on national competitions that take place every year and result in the selection of a tourist "destination of excellence" for each participating country. EDEN 2009 award is to focus on promoting sustainable tourism in protected areas. That's why the Partner Group "Ujście Warty" took part in the competition and listing the Bird Republic which is related to the national and landscape parks and Ujście Warty Natura 2000 site.

Twenty-two destinations of excellence have been officially awarded during the European Tourism Forum on 7th October 2009 and presented in a short movie. You can watch the film about the Bird Republic in the Warta Mouth (Rzeczpospolita Ptasia w Ujściu Warty) below.

A measurable result of our success are funds which the Polish Tourist Organization has received for the purpose of promotion of the Bird Republic in the Warta Mouth. Thanks to the EDEN award our region will appear on billboards and leaflets, will be a subject of all-Polish conferences.

In 2011 the European Commission's competition selecting EDEN destinations in Europe has ended. In the five theme editions 98 unique places in 26 countries have been selected. The winning destinations are those that best reflect the chosen theme of the year and which offer a unique tourism experience, in line with sustainable patterns. They are certainly worth visiting!
